Ulaanbaatar, May 1, 2024 /MONTSAME/. MIAT Mongolian Airlines’ newly purchased CRJ-700 Airliner "Mazaalai" conducted its maiden flight to Khovd aimag on April 28, 2024.

The Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia has designated 2024 as the "Year of Construction" for the road and transport sector to support regional development. In this context, the Ministry has started implementing the goal of increasing the number of airliners and improving the capacity of the local airport.

Under Mongolia's long and mid-term development policies "Vision-2050", and "New Revival Policy", as well as the "Affordable Ticket-Accessible Flights" goal initiated by the Ministry of Road and Transport Development, domestic flights were restored in 9 aimags in 2023.

In his opening speech, Minister of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia S. Byambatsogt said: "Liberalization of air transport and promotion of equal and fair competition have become the driving force behind the road and transport sector's development. As a result, the industry experienced a 73 percent growth in 2023. In civil aviation, passenger air traffic increased by 3.5 times, tariffs for international and domestic flights decreased by 2-3 times. Also, Mongolia’s National Flag Carrier MIAT restored its domestic flights after 15 years."

The CRJ-700 "Mazaalai" Airliner, with a capacity of 70 passengers, is designed for regional flights. "Mazaalai" will serve domestic routes to Bayan-Ulgii, Khovd, Gobi-Altai, Khuvsgul, Dornod, Umnugobi, Zavkhan, Uvs, and Bayankhongor.

The CRJ-700 is larger than other similar-sized regional jets, which allows it to fly longer without refueling. Passengers benefit from a spacious cabin layout with roomy seats and ample luggage storage. Aerodynamic improvements incorporated into the CRJ-700's wings and overall design contribute to better fuel efficiency and potentially higher cruise speeds than earlier regional jets.
